Book blurb:
Everything Dominic Price has worked hard to
uphold is about to come crashing down on everything he holds dear.
So much for the quiet life.
Just as assistant US attorney and brewery owner Dominic Price is settling into
a comfy new chapter with his partner, FBI agent Cameron Byrne, the sudden death
of Nic’s father puts their happily-ever-after in jeopardy. Nic immediately
suspects foul play, his prime suspect a notorious gangster his father was
indebted to—only now the loan shark is out for blood.
Cam has been longing for Nic
to finally let him in on this very personal case. But when Nic’s belief that
he’s the sole Price heir is upended, the line between personal and professional
starts to blur, leaving Cam unsure of where he stands.
Nic is depending on Cam’s
kidnap and rescue expertise to save his recently discovered family member
before it’s too late. But with a dangerous threat closing in, the ghosts from
Nic’s past cast long shadows. Any relationship could crack under the pressure,
but for Nic, finding his family might mean losing the love of his life.
Layla Reyne says: Nic and Cam have to fight for their lives and
their happily ever after in this exciting, action-packed conclusion to the
Trouble Brewing series.
Excerpt
Cam was more than a little disappointed.
The press had wanted a show this morning and now that he
and Nic were ready to give them one, Vaughn was arriving at SFO’s private
terminal. Sure, Cam could have leaked what was about to happen here—like
someone had leaked the news of Curtis’s death—but their friends also frequently
used this terminal. Privacy was part of what they and others paid for here; he
didn’t want to violate that expectation, for their sake.
Without a crowd of press, the line of suited federal
agents, with him and Nic standing in front, was unmistakable. Which was
probably why Vaughn was taking his sweet ass time disembarking. Cam had offered
to storm the plane with his agents but Nic wanted to wait. That, however, was
twenty minutes ago and Nic’s shoulders were inching higher. Cam wanted to lay a
hand on his arm or back to ease him, but with the agents behind them, he
settled for stepping closer and putting their heads together, like they were
having a tactical discussion.
“He wants to provoke you,” Cam whispered low. “You need to
bring back the mask. Be the magician.”
Nic glanced sideways, taking his eyes off the G5. “The
magician?”
“That’s what Aidan calls you.” Cam chuckled at Nic’s eye
roll, glad for the break in the tension. “I know it’s a mask, but it’s still
remarkable how you pull it up on command and keep your cool, no matter the
situation.”
“That’s not being a magician. That’s being a SEAL.”
“Then that’s who you need to be.” Nic had given him this
lecture more than once over the past year, and it’d saved him time and again.
Kept him in the Agent Byrne mindset when Cameron Byrne, brother and son and
former thief had been scratching beneath the badge’s surface. “You need to be
Captain and Assistant US Attorney Dominic Price right now, not Dominic Price,
son of Curtis Price.”
Nic’s shoulders lowered another notch. “Thank you for
coming with me.”
“No place else I’d rather be.”
REVIEWED BY:
What a great ending to a great series.
I can definitely see a spin off of this about a certain co-owner ;)
I would also LOVE to see a novella of a certain event between a certain couple.

In this last installment we know that Nic was struggling with not really having a family, he was very secretive about his tattoo and he and Cam were still trying to cement their relationship while dealing with Nic's dad and thugish loan sharks.
ALL things WILL be answered. Even if it takes awhile to get there. Nic and Cam have come out as a couple, but it still seems times Cam is still unsure of where he lies with Nic. Could be because Nic is still so secretive about certain aspects of himself (said tattoo and its meaning), but Nic isn't trying to malicious, he's trying to protect those he loved. He always seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders. Cam and Aiden, Jamie, Lauren...they're all trying to show him he isn't alone and doesn't have to carry it alone.
Things escalate with Duncan Vaughn (loan shark) and all the moles among them, it takes Nic down another path that leads right back to his past. He gets to meet new people while rekindling with some old and getting much needed closure with a burden he's been carrying around for 30 years.
Again, like all Layla's stories, there's lots of action and fights and most likely kidnapping, but she always, always gives us a much needed HEA. I was completely hooked from beginning to end.
