From holy cup comes holy light;
The faithful hand sets world aright.
And in the Seven Martyrs’ sight,
Mere man shall end this endless night.
It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise. For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness.
Gabriel de León is a silversaint: a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night. But even the Silver Order could not stem the tide once daylight failed us, and now, only Gabriel remains.
Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity’s last remaining hope:
The Holy Grail.
From author Jay Kristoff comes Empire of the Vampire, the first illustrated volume of an astonishing new dark fantasy saga.

My Review- 5 stars
I was reading a review on Goodreads that had given this book a 1.5* review, and all of her points are legit. HOWEVER, they are also the reason this book is what it is and why I thought it was an intense (and great) read.
In this story there is a made-up religion with an Icon at the top of it that really hits home to the current largest religion on this planet and it's very popular head of it.
Within that religion it is run in a very patriarchal sort of way, so this story shines a light on all of that, giving it a feeling of realness.
She also refers to a lot of the characters being underage, etc... It is a dystopian story. You don't live very long. Almost all stories of this genre are this way, this author is just a bit more explicit in all the ways with it. If you were going to die young, you would probably do the same thing. To be honest, kids of this age these days do these things anyways, it just isn't talked about in polite society. This book isn't polite.
She had 4 points, I am only giving my thoughts on these 2 points.
This book is NOT for children. This book IS fiction. It is in a fake time and place with a lot of vampires and no sun. It is dark indeed, so enter at your own risk.
This is why I say it is a cross between Interview with a Vampire, Constantine and Van Helsing. The vampire/religious/slayer aspects.
Aside from the awesome world building & the amazing graphics within the novel, I enjoyed how he story jumped from end, to beginning to end, etc.. and then met in the middle. It kept me on my toes and made me keep coming back for more.
