I will admit, the only Leta Blake I have read is Will & Patrick Wake Up Married, so this was a little excited to try something different from this author.
I have also been on an omega kick and this couldn't have come at a better time.
Let's be clear, yes this is a story of Omegas and Alphas and heats and knotting, but it is NOT a shifter book of any form. It's just an alt-universe full of humans in these different classes. Omegas have been fighting for their rights, so a lot of them sell their heats and sometimes breeding to alphas for a cost. They chestfeed and then give the babies up and move on, unitil perhaps their next heat.
Adrien, our Omega of this story, was raised by a religious Alpha and was taught to be sort of prim and proper. Nudity is embarrassing for him, while all other Omegas are raised to love showing themselves off. Let's just say Adrien was raised "old school" by his father. Once in college after his father passes, he planned on looking for more information about the heats and breedings of Omegas, as they weren't taught much in his hometown, but with his class schedule and studies, he just never had the time. So when his heat and auction comes, thankfully he has his university to help him out.
Heath, an older Alpha, is brought in on this auction due to how much Adrien looks like his ex-lover. Thankfully for Adrien though, he has an experienced Alpha who understands the old ways but supports the new ways.
I think there is some miscommunication at the beginning of the story, but I also thought it unfolded very smoothly. Of course there are bumps in the road and things that need to be worked out and secrets to be told, but I really liked the way Heath took care of Adrien. Heck, I even loved his staff.
