I am a sucker for a nerd MC and Dev was the perfect nerd for me!!! He moved into a house after having a bit of a bullying problem in the dorms of the college that he is attending. Dev is a bit socially awkward and I gotta say that makes me love him even more. Dev has a list (a guy after my own heart) of all the things that he wants to do this year. Ya know, stuff like make friends, learn to cook, and rim jobs. 

Ewan is the ginger, another trait I happen to love, neighbor next door and after receiving a package that he accidentally opens, he decides to deliver it himself to Dev. The package is a little personal in nature to say the least…lol. After finding out about Dev’s list he decides to help him out in exchange for some math tutoring. Not a bad trade off in my opinion, a little quadratic equations for a hand job. 

Somewhere along the way Dev and Ewan develop feelings for each other but of course don’t think the other feels the same way. It takes them a little bit to get it together and when they do, its soooo sweet!!!!

This is book 3 in the series but I didn’t feel like I was missing out on something at all, so it can be read as a standalone. 

I give this book ***3 1/2*** sweet, sweet stars.

Kyle cleared customs in minutes. Checked into the lounge. Ordered not champagne but a tall glass of cranberry juice over ice. He was early. Sinking into a deep brown leather seat acres away from any other visible human, he plugged in his phone to make sure the battery was topped off. In an hour the lounge would be packed arse-to-elbow with screaming, giggling, new-to-business-class tourists. But it was empty and silent now. A voice call then. While he still had the chance. "Bryce," he said. "Pick up. Please pick up, love. I'm about to board a flight to London. I've been deported." "Kyle." The line was clear. Crisp. It was like Bryce had suddenly appeared out of nowhere to speak into his ear. "I've been kicked out of America, love." "I'm sorry," Bryce said. "But I have to admit I'm not entirely surprised. Greg woke up a good hour before his alarm went off and rolled out of bed to shower and shave, and dress in his usual jeans and T-shirt ready for work. He drank instant coffee and ate the small wrapped cookies that came with the room, then took out all his notes and spread them out in chronological order on the floor, holding down recalcitrant corners with anything he could find.

A mug held down one, a notebook another, a pillow near his knee, and a shoe furthest from him.

Not exactly the best way to have this laid out, but he couldn’t pin everything up on the wall.

Andrey would laugh at him, seeing him on his hands and knees like this. Familiar grief welled inside him. A year and he could still conjure up Andrey’s face. He held the pendant that hung around his neck in a tight grip.

Greg sat back on his haunches to get a better perspective on the papers and to get a grip on the heartache that wouldn’t leave him. Instead he focused on why he was doing this: a mental promise to Andrey to find the Khlebnikov Diamonds. Somehow, in his screwed-up brain, he had rationalized the guilt he felt over Andrey’s death with finding the diamonds. Like it would restore some sort of cosmic balance in his life.

Chris Quinton started creating stories not long after she mastered joined-up writing, somewhat to the bemusement of her parents and her English teachers. But she received plenty of encouragement. Her dad gave her an already old Everest typewriter when she was ten, and it was probably the best gift she'd ever received – until the inventions of the home-computer and the worldwide web.

Chris's reading and writing interests range from historical, mystery, and paranormal, to science-fiction and fantasy, writing mostly in the male/male genre. Prologue

Eighteen years ago

“Hurry, Holden.” Holden’s mother undid his seatbelt and carried him out of the car. He plopped down on the cold pavement in his footie pajamas, then Momma went running for the fire station, holding his hand.

Men rushed around them. “Uncle Niall!” Momma screamed.

“Jazzy, you want me to take Holden? Ed’s bad. He’s gonna need to burn out!” Uncle Niall called out to us.

Momma picked up the pace. “No, he’s going to find out sooner or later.”

“He’s five, Jazzy. Now’s not the time!” Uncle Niall protested.

Holden didn’t get to hear any more. They turned the corner and went straight into a room Holden hadn’t gone into with his little brothers. There was white tile along the walls and high amounts of steam. They turned the corner, and Holden saw several firefighters sitting, tired, in folding chairs as the showers rained down upon them. He searched for his dad, but couldn’t find him in the sea of sooty men.

“Jazz,” Holden heard his father rasp out, and his mother maneuvered him through the other firefighters. In the corner, where no water reached, lay Holden’s father. Three guys surrounded him, peeling away his destroyed gear.

His face was burned severely, and Holden clutched his momma’s hand. “Momma,” he whimpered out.

Momma knelt down in front of him. “It’s going to be okay, Holden. Daddy will be just fine. You need to see just how special you and your brothers are.”

Holden shook his head as his dad gasped. “Daddy!” Holden screamed as his dad’s destroyed body erupted into flames. Ash billowed all around the area. Holden cried out, trying to break free of his mom’s grip. My dad!

Holden covered his eyes as the ash around them made its way to Momma and him. He bowed his head down, crying, hiding as he waited for the ash to settle.

After a moment, Momma patted him on the head. “Holden, it’s fine now.” She scooped him up, resting him on her hip. Holden tucked his face into her shoulder and cried freely.

“Holden, honey. You need to look up. Daddy’s just fine,” Jazzy soothed.

Holden wiped his face on Momma’s shirt before he turned and gazed down at the floor. Men were covering his dad with a blanket. His dad lay there, naked, burns completely gone from his face and hands. Ash began falling and covering him.

“Daddy?” Holden broke his hold and ran to kneel next to his father.

Daddy reached up and palmed Holden’s cheek. “Son, it’s time you found out how special your family line is.”

Chapter One

Present Day

There were plenty of things Rick Hills could have brought out with him on the fire escape besides his PC. A pair of pants was at the fucking top of the list, since he stood there in his humping reindeer boxer briefs. And it was summer! Not only was he out of season, but everyone in a ten-block radius would know how scrawny he was under the baggy clothes he usually wore. No shirt, no socks, just obscene reindeers getting laid all over his boxers. Even in this dire situation, embarrassment surrounded him like the black smoke coming out of the building.

A pair of shoes was another item he could use right about now, but no, he was in the middle of an online raid, and thought he didn’t want to let his other gamers down. How the hell was he going to take down a boss when his building was going up in smoke? Then there was his work on it. Many irreplaceable photos. All the families counted on him to capture those special moments in their lives. Rick was in a shitty situation. God, did his computer back up automatically after he transferred the photos today? He hoped so, because his cameras were going to burn.

Oh, and one more thing, how in the world was he going to get down when the fire escape was fucking broken? Shit, a phone would have been nice, too.

Neighbors came out to gaze up at the burning building and him. Jesus, of all the ways to go out. He had to do it in front of his nosy neighbor, ninety-year-old Mrs. Florence who loved to pinch his cheeks every time he passed. And no, it wasn’t the cheeks on his face.

Rick noticed several onlookers on their phone and prayed that one of them was actually talking to 9-1-1 instead of posting about what was happening on social media. A few snapped a shot, and he could only pray that come morning, his photo wouldn’t go viral.

Someone was underneath him, making an attempt to fix the broke-dick ladder. Rick should tell the guy it was no use, that kids had been using it to break into the apartments. The wolf-shifter neighbor, a floor beneath him, had taken it upon himself to make sure no one came in to steal his electronics again, shifting and tearing the ladder to pieces. At the time, Rick was grateful to the guy, since he was also a victim of the robbery, but now, it might just cost him his life.

Fear choked him, and Rick whipped his head around, seeking for an alternative escape. He couldn’t go back into his apartment; his place was already billowing with the thick black smoke. Shit. Panic settled in, and he began to tremble on the escape. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. There was no way out of this except to jump, and he was five floors up. The fall would kill him, for sure.

Sirens sounded in the distance, and Rick peered down the street to see emergency lights in the distance. Rick blew out a quivering breath. He might just see the light of day again.

Review:

When I first saw Phoenix shifters I was like "hell yeah!" and then to make them firefighters? brilliant! 

Well, the story is pretty good, if anything it could have been a little longer. The banter between the brothers was cute, as all brothers like to give each other "the business" and general debauchery. 

Rick and Holden had good chemistry and I really loved that instead of being a "mate", Rick is considered his "Sun". When Holden gave him his fire, to protect him from a new enemy, the mark that he got sounds really badass! 

I think this is a good intro to a series, I can see this becoming pretty great. I would definitely continue on. 

I give it 3.5 burning stars

A Mulligan, in a game, happens when a player gets a second chance to perform a certain move or action; usually due to lack of skill or bitter luck. A "Do-Over". 

I really liked the golf references behind the whole story. Even though I am not in to golf myself, it was Nathan's "happy place", so for the story to centralize around it was very meaningful. I also liked the hidden meaning in it when Stacey says the new rule is to not talk about golf. Just like she never talked about anything unpleasant or the fact that she knew her husbands secrets. When she brings the rule back it's kind of like a floodgate for everything. 

This book made me so nervous!! 
The whole time I was waiting for that other shoe to drop. You knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when. It has a very "mature" feel to it, and it also feels as if it were written as a play or screen write. I guess it makes sense as it is being turned into a movie. 

You get to learn all the characters inside and out and sympathize with each of them, in their own way. I think my favorite was Birdie. Everyone underestimated her and tried to keep her innocent, but she knew more then everyone gave her credit for. 

I thought it was definitely an emotional read, and a bit taboo. I can't say for sure if it was a happy ending, maybe more of a continuation to a journey to be happy. I really hope they all find themselves, and each other again.

Wow. not quite what I expected, but that's a good thing. Garrett just jumped right in to the drama right from chapter one. Then she took us back four years to the beginning of Rupert and Jodi's relationship and how they met. She intertwined the past and the present so that we could get a feel of who they were as a couple to who they're going to be. I will say, the accident happening isn't what killed me. Nor was the coma and the time Rupert had to struggle and wait for Jodi to wake up. Was it sad, hell yes and I felt for Rupe, I did. But what gutted me was when Jodi got to come home. His indifference and lack of memory towards Rupert was absolutely heartbreaking. Rupert is a strong, strong man for going through all that. He kept it mostly together where a lot of other people just might have given up. When Jodi comes to, he's missing about 5 years of his life and thankfully hos best friend is there to kind of guide him and let him know things have changed. Only Jodi doesn't realize how much things have changed, as he thinks Rupert's just a flat mate. So when he starts to develop feelings (again) of the not just friends type he feels guilty and closes himself off. I think the big catalyst in changing their relationship is when Rupert's ex-wife drops off their daughter in an emergency situation and Jodi is left alone with someone he knows nothing about anymore, yet she knows all about him and ends up sharing something no one else would tell him. It's a missing piece for him that he really needed, despite everyone's best effort to help him try remembering on his own. After this, things really start to look up and we get back on track, thank Gods!! Side note: The photos album, my gods the photo album, I think that's the sweetest thing ever!! The one thing that threw me off though that i didn't love was Sophie's confession about being kind of glad Jodi only remembered her. That she thought *maybe* they could be a thing again. It was selfish and a little cruel knowing how in love Jodi and Rupert were before the accident and it seemed a little out of character for her. Anyways, This ending isn't a traditional HEA, but really, how can it be? Jodi has a serious head injury and nothing will ever be the same, but it's another start to another life and its happy for them as it can be. I thought it was perfect for how this story goes. I give this book 4 solid stars

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lexi has always been an avid reader, and at a young age started reading (secretly) her mother’s romances (the ones she was told not to touch). She was the only teenager she knew of who would be grounded from reading.
