Synopsis

His brother slash boyfriend, Drew is leaving him. It makes Zach unaware of his surrounding and a hate-crime psycho takes him off guard. He is kidnapped and tortured. Zach is saved by the FBI and as a surviving witness, he is brought to stay with FBI Agent Eugene Harris.

Gradually, Eugene gets to know Zach. He should have been disgusted, but instead, all he wants is comfort Zach.

Will Zach accept that Drew is not coming back? Will Eugene finally have the gut to tell Zach how he feels?

Excerpt
“Come with me, Zach.”

"Hush..." Zach whispered. He wanted to treasure the moment as much as he could but it was him who pulled back first. “Let’s go,” he said harshly. “You will miss your bus.” His heart bled at how Drew stared at him in confusion, hurt in his eyes. But he knew he had to let go now or he would never be able to.

He helped Drew with his bags and grasped Drew’s jacket sleeve, hugging him tight and kissing him again, not caring who might be watching. Drew clung onto him just like he used to during those cold nights whenever they were alone in a motel room, and squeezed him for the last time, pulling back. Their eyes met.

“I’ll come back for you.”

Long after the bus was gone, Zach was still standing at the bus station, his heart heavy. Drew was his brother and his lover. Zach realized the unnatural nature of their relationship, but he couldn't bring himself to care. They only had each other in their lives.

Synopsis
Snowed In is a wintery blend of frost, snow, and romance from eight of Torquere Press’ M/M authors.

Winter storms are dangerous, and in Celibate Cold by Lynn Townsend, Topher finds himself stranded in one when his car slides into a ditch. Alone and scared, he tries to walk home in the blizzard but ends up at Chase’s house, desperately in need of help.

Can an accident on Luke and Tom’s annual hike lead to them becoming more than good friends? Find out in Jessica Chase’s Falling for Love!

In This Winter’s Night by Kassandra Lea, Barry is devastated when he realizes he spends more time talking to his horses than his boyfriend—but that’s about change.

These snow angels have a devilish side! Huey and Tommy think their neighbor Marshall would be a naughty, fun addition to their snow day in Snow Angels by Leigh Ellwood.

In Snow Job by Logan Zachary, winter doesn’t always come with a chill—sometimes it’s smokin’ hot! For Lance and Leo, snowbound and icicles are about to take on whole new meanings.

Beau and Leon are two strangers on a chairlift. When Leon—the “experienced” skier—laughs at himself, Beau looks at him in a whole new light in Taking the Fall Line by Tray Ellis.

In Snowy Reunion by Emjay Haze, Steven wonders if he even has a boyfriend since Jonathan walked out after their last argument. But Jonathan surprises Steven during a ski trip and it just might save their relationship.

Seeking the elusive Yeti is Joel’s passion, but he finds more than he bargained for in Adventures of a Yeti Hunter by L.J. Hamlin.

Excerpt
Celibate Cold by Lynn Townsend
Chase squinted. Of course it wasn’t a yeti, he thought. But the creature who was stumbling in his direction was covered in snow from the thighs down and his coat was thick with ice crystals. He had a hat crammed low down over his ears, but no gloves, and his sleeves were crusted with more snow. He’d probably fallen a few times, to judge by the smears of white down his front.
By the time Chase had identified the intruder as being nothing more than a man, his visitor was nearly to the porch. The man’s teeth were chattering so hard that he couldn’t seem to force intelligible words out. Chase caught a few mumbled syllables.
“Well, you look like three miles of bad road,” Chase said. He helped the man up the stairs and then impartially started brushing snow off his back, not really paying attention to where his hands were until the man startled when Chase’s hands came down on his ass, smacking snow away.
The stranger whirled, his brown eyes wide.
Chase held his hands out to his sides, harmless. “No point in trackin’ that all in m’house, man, and you look a bit chilled to do it yourself.”
The man nodded, stomped off his feet as best he could, which wasn’t very well. Chase sighed. The guy was wearing fucking Oxfords, for Christ’s sweet sake. He’d be lucky if he had any toes left at all. Fool.
“Sex,” the man said.
“What?” Chase had to have misheard that. He stuck a finger—snow covered, and cold—into his ear as if to clear it out. Or wind up his brain. “What did you say?”
“Six. Six miles of bad road.”

Excerpt

Two high school seniors weaved their way at breakneck speed through a crowd of small children. Shawn scrambled to and fro, doing his best to escape from Alex. He wasn’t afraid. In fact, he laughed loudly and made the funniest taunting faces. He let his friend get close enough for a tag and then poured it on to pull away. They were playing a boyhood version of cat and mouse. Except in this case, Shawn, the mouse, had the edge in size and body power. He towered over Alex by at least several inches. His torso appeared solid and muscular.
Alex might have been shorter and lighter, but he had all the requirements of a top-notch athlete, including muscles that rippled in all the right places. Unlike Shawn, who had a rough jock exterior, Alex had the façade of a rock star with his shaggy blond hair, baby blue eyes, and wide, gleaming smile.
As the cat closed in on his prey, Shawn pulled off a series of strategic maneuvers. He sidestepped to the left and then swerved to the right. Somewhere along the way, he tripped over an invisible root and lost his balance.
“Wha-wha…. Oh, no.” He stumbled and crash-landed into a pile of leaves. Lying face down, he braced for the aftermath: a hundred-sixty-pound putty cat that leaped on top of him.
What he wasn’t prepared for were the hands that drove into his arm pits. “No, Alex. Nooo. Not that.” No one would ever question Shawn’s toughness. He was tough enough to be a thug if he wanted to be, which he didn’t. But he had one major weakness that everyone knew about: being incredibly ticklish. Alex’s fingers jabbed away with teasing magic. Shawn continued to scream out, “No. Alex. Stop,” as he thrashed about like a fish loose in a rowboat.
Not far from the ruckus, a shadowy figure peered out from between the branches of a thick shrub. Tony was in hiding and having a mild spasm of envy. That should be him on top, bringing out the animal in Shawn. Nobody could do it better than he did.

PHIL MARCELLO started writing as a boy in the sixties. Growing up in the projects wasn’t easy, but reading and writing were a couple of healthy vices he picked up along the way. Life happened, but Phil never entirely lost his interest and over the years, he started, but never finished, over a dozen stories.
Fortunately, he saved them all and now has the time and desire to complete them. Phil knows it will take years, but as he enjoys writing and views it as his art form it’s a labor of love he gladly undertakes.

Excerpt:

Marc smiled as he made clinking sounds in the galley of his private jet. He already had the black slacks on, so it was

the work of a moment to take off his polo shirt and slip into the white epauletted button-down short-sleeve shirt of a

steward. The wings were already attached to the lapels, and he’d even had a name tag made.

“Here you go, sir,” he said as he handed Jesse his drink on a tray. Jesse was already involved in something on his

phone, and he absentmindedly reached for it.

Then he paused, sensing that something had changed. He looked up to see Marc dressed as an airline steward, his

eyes dancing with heat.

Marc didn’t smile as he said, “Is there anything else I can get you, sir?”

Jesse swallowed. “Maybe a warm blanket.”

Marc took the drink from his hand. He pressed a button on the side of Jesse’s chair.

“The seat fully reclines into a bed, sir. Let me make you comfortable.”

As the seat back flattened and the base lifted Jesse’s feet up, Marc pushed another button, and the chair’s arms

lowered out of the way, which gave him room to straddle Jesse’s hips.

He put his hands on Jesse’s chest, and Jesse reached up to finger his collar. “How did you earn those wings,

steward?”

Marc idly stroked Jesse’s hand where it lingered on the wings. “Oh, those, sir? For achieving membership in the

Mile High Club. Are you a member?” Marc began to grind his ass against Jesse’s crotch, feeling the transformation

below his slacks.

“You know, I am not. I’ve never been invited to join.”

Marc leaned in to whisper in his ear. “Let me be the first to welcome you, then.”

Interview:

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Brad Vance, author of “Strength in Numbers,” the second book in the “Game Players” series, after “Would I Lie to You?” Hi Brad, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Thank you for having me!

1)    What’s the easiest thing about writing?

That initial spark is the most fun, that moment an idea comes to me and I suddenly realize, omigod I have a plot for a novel. Then I sit down and freestyle ideas until I have the outline of a plot. Then you have to execute it – that’s the hard part!

2)    Name one author (living or dead) you’d like to write with?
I’ll be honest, I’d be a terrible collaborator. I have my own ideas and my own ways of expressing them. The authors I most admire are the same way; their work wouldn’t be “theirs” if someone else’s voice was added to it.

3)    Tell us about your cover and how it came about.
Sometimes when I come up with a new story, I already have a character or an idea in mind. Then I’ll often go cruising stock photo sites for likely cover models. But Jesse Winchester came to me for Would I Lie to You? when I was cruising stock photos, and I came on the one you see on the cover. I later found out the model’s name was Daniel Sobieray, but all I knew at the time was that he was so handsome, so charming…most stock photo dudes are made of wood, all flat and expressionless and charmless. He looked like such a con man in that black suit, with that wicked glint in his eye, I could just hear him asking me the title question. And everything else in that book just flowed from that photo. That’s the only time a cover photo has turned into a novel for me. Some people have said they didn’t read the book because they didn’t like the cover, that he looked too “snaky,” but…if you don’t like the cover, you won’t like the character, so there’s that.

4)    Is this book part of a series? Do you have ideas that could make it into a series? If it is a series, tell us a little about it.

Strength in Numbers is the second in a series. It’s the first time I’ve had a set of characters I didn’t feel “done with” at the end of one novel. Most books, you know, you’ve got a HEA and…then what? What are you going to do, write a sequel and screw that up for them, so you can unscrew it up at the end? I really felt like Marc and Jesse were just getting to know each other, that there was more emotional and intellectual territory they could mine in each other, that they could go on some ripping adventures together. There’s definitely a third one “in development,” titled Game Theory. Strength wraps up the loose ends from book one, but there’s still a formidable opponent the guys are going to have to deal with in book three…

5)    Word association. Tell us the first thing that comes to mind when you read these words.
Ketchup - mustard
Flakes – too many people in this business
Elastic - waistband
Timer - egg

Google - lifesaver

California staring at a lifeless body—oh yeah, the suicide attempt. Lieutenant Hanson is

her wounds are similar to scars he has only a vague memory receiving. An intense

desire to find her killer fills his queasy belly as a dark game of cat and mouse begins.

The young woman’s death forces Vince back into a secret life dominated by sex,

perversion, and sadomasochism. Estranged from his wife he still loves and longing for

the man who possessed him once, Vince buries his torment deep inside meaningless

sex.

Excerpt:

Vincent Sweetwater twisted the Harley’s throttle. The power in the motor

thrummed between his legs. The bike seemed heavy, angry; like she wanted to fall flat

on her face. Like she yearned to drag him across the gritty asphalt. Vince needed to feel

the pavement shred his clothing and bite into his skin. Punishment for being a man who

thrived on suffering.

Why can’t I control myself, damn it?

-You’re supposed to be one of the good guys.

Fuck off.

-Stop drinking, Sweetwater.

Vince envisioned choking the life out of his conscience. The damn thing made it

difficult to be an asshole, yet somehow he didn't let it stop him. Nothing stopped him

from being a dick to his wife. Vince squeezed the throttle. The speed would numb his

mind.

The machine growled beneath him, giving her two fucking cents, and he ignored

the wanton slut. Vince was too malicious to give her what she craved. If he did, there

would be no turning back.

Still, the iron bitch demanded more power. Urged by a quiet whisper from somewhere in

the darkness of his mind, Vince let off the throttle long enough to grasp the clutch and

toe it into sixth.

184 words:

Vince grabbed the remote and clicked on the news. He paid little attention as he

rubbed his aching hip. When Lola Romero began her news report he glanced up to see

an official photo of himself in uniform.

“Jesus, talk about an old fucking picture.”

Despite being only twenty-three in the photo, he hadn't appeared young and

fresh faced. His eyes had held a kind of darkness even then, and his best efforts were

unable to hide the pain.

“An L.A.P.D. Information officer confirmed the return to duty of Detective Vincent

Sweetwater just one week after a horrifying display of violence toward a man who was

reportedly beating his five-year-old son in the parking lot of a Home Depot in Inglewood.

Detective Sweetwater was nearly killed last year in a motorcycle accident on the Pacific

Coast Highway and is still under scrutiny following alleged misconduct while under deep

cover with the narcotics division.”

“Bite me, Lola.” Vince shut off the TV, flopping back on the bed, staring into the

darkness.

“Fuck my life. It was more than a year ago. Bitch.”

I hate people.

The room fell silent and he turned back to the freezer. His hand hovered lovingly

over the lid before he lifted it. “Hey, pretty. I know what to do with you now. You’re going

to meet the son of an old friend.”

The girl had dead-fish eyes. Half-lidded, green once upon a time, they stared

unseeing from a frost glittered corpse. Hair like sunburnt grass pricked her high

cheekbones and full lips. He smoothed it back stiffly. The realization this would be the

last time he felt her youthful body rushed through him like a phantom out of the dark. He

was almost surprised at her lack of life.

On a shelf across the room was a black tarp, which he spread on the floor. With

singular effort he struggled to get the partially frozen corpse from the freezer. She

landed with a sick thud. The man apologized to her as though she were still living,

stroking her stiff hair soothingly. He started to roll her in the black plastic, cocooning her

in a final darkness, to be reborn from the chrysalis in the morning sunlight. Only then

would Vincent Sweetwater come to know her and whom she represented.
